JUGGLING GAMES & ACTIVITIES (INDIVIDUAL OR SMALL GROUPS)

(Watch this short video to create your own quick thinking game. You can vary the number of touches as well as the surfaces used, or make it specific, example - feet only)

  • Juggling with Movement:  Start at one spot and walk/jog/run while juggling the ball. See how far you can go without dropping the ball.

  • Juggling Combinations: Try putting combos together using specific touches

    • Halfway Around the World - Right Foot, Right Quad (knee), Left Quad (knee), Left Foot

    • Around the World - Right Foot, Right Quad, Right Shoulder, Head, Left Shoulder, Left Knee, Left Foot

    • Create Your Own Combo

  • Black Jack (21):

Play with two or more players. First player juggles as many touches as they can and keeps track of count. Second player goes after first player misses. After second player misses, first player goes again starting count where they missed in first turn. For example if player got five touches in first turn, they would start second turn at six. First player to Black Jack (21) wins. This game can also be made more challenging by restricting it to certain body parts.

JUGGLING SUBCULTURE & ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

  • Around the world, the skill of juggling has been transformed into it’s own unique sub genres. Freestyle football, or the art of self expression through juggling has become a global phenomenon and has even become its own sport,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JXxpZOWtNY.

WALL BALL

The first two videos are of Forlan (after finishing his team training) working solo against a wall. See if you can notice the different parts of the foot he uses to pass and receive, as well as the stroke and pace he applies when striking the ball.

The third video is a highlight reel of some of the incredible goals that are attributed to countless hours of spending against a wall.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT INDIVIDUAL TRAINING

The ability to execute a technique is only part of the equation. Isolated training can most definitely help you improve your ability to perform a skill, but usually lacks the “decision making” component that we value so much in our players. While these skills will undoubtedly help you gain confidence on the ball, it is important to think about how we can apply these skills in a game situation.
