This has been a challenging time for all in our community, and has pushed to the limelight the challenges that some in our community grapple with every day. Bellevue United FC released a statement on social media, and we would like to expand on that statement here.

Why should our youth sports organization make a statement?

• While few of our athletes will go on to be professional athletes, they are all community members, and will all become adults.

• The fundamental reasons we sign our children up for sports are to have fun and learn life lessons, as well as the game: respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, community, friendship, health and physical activity.

• Racism, injustice and violence are incompatible with the values we teach, inspire and promote within youth sports; our players are not oblivious to, or immune from, current events or their own life experiences.

• We as a youth sports community want to double-down on our role, responsibility and purpose. We exist to provide a safe and fun environment focused on respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, community, friendship and health. We will do our part to eradicate racism, injustice and violence.
